Makiwa Gallery was established in 2014 by the director and Artist Makiwa Mutomba. It is presently in two locations – Umhlanga Rocks (Durban) and Franschhoek (Western Cape Winelands) in South Africa. The Umhlanga Rocks Gallery is located in the Lighthouse Quarter, on 14 Chartwell Drive. The galleries mostly exhibit the works Makiwa Mutomba, Marlien Van Heerden, Tony de Freitas, Dominic Benhura, and a few other carefully selected artists and sculptors. Makiwa Gallery has slowly but surely grown it’s collector base in South Africa and overseas, notably in Germany, UK, and the USA in the past 10 years that they have been operating.
